Anonymous Comments

I’m wondering how many of you allow anonymous comments on your blogs? The commenter’s on my blog just made life difficult with inappropriate comments, so I stopped allowing all anonymous messages.

yeah that sounds reasonable to me.. i've had a few outrageous anonymous comments but I think it just contributed to discussion so I don't mind it

I just delete those that aren't on topic or just stupid. Then again my blog is about my art and pretty non-controversial. Delete is a wonderful option. Sometime its good to be king and just get rid of the crap you don't want in your own world.

At metblogs they have a registration requirement for commenters and it has really just about stopped the trolls in their tracks. I liked that. Registration doesn't require a real name so we still have a lot of fun people in using their old screen names which is cool.

At The Foothill Cities Blog where I also post there is no troll control and it gets to be a nightmare either just vicious trolling or straying way of topic which really took the fun out of that one so I'm taking a break from there.

On another blog I ran I didn't allow anonymous comments and had barely any comments. It is not that I didn't tell them they didn't need to use a real name. Still no comments. I explained you can get an anonymouse email at gmail or yahoo and still no comments. So I removed the requirment and the maelstorm started.

The point is you can try to control and if you do it right it works. If you limit to no anonymous you run the risk of no comments at all. I'd rather police a little than have no comments at all!
