LA Bloggers!

Uniting the people of Los Angeles, one blogger at a time : )

I just had this weird idea.  Or maybe it's a brilliant idea.  Or maybe it's a lame idea...you tell me.  All of us here blog and all of us here live in Los Angeles.  What can we do with that?  What if we had an LA Blogathon?  ("Hey kids, let's put on a show...")  Our group blogs for 24 hours in one LA Location.  I'm thinking Canter's Deli on Fairfax might be a good place.  We would all sign up for one- or two-hour shifts, and then claim a table at Canters.  Hopefully, if enough people signed up, there would always be two or three people at the Canters Blogathon tabe for 24 hours.  After your shift (or during it, on your laptop), you blog about Canters at that moment.  If you have a photography blog, you take pictures and post them.  If you write about parenthood, you bring your kids and write about that.  Or you just write about your experience at the blogathon.   Then, anyone who could would meet at 10 a.m. the morning the Blogathon ended.  We would all eat breakfast and black and white cookies together.  Because all important endeavors should really end with a black and white cookie, shouldn't they?  The location wouldn't have to be Canters.  It just seemed like a good choice because: it's comfortable to sit there for an hour; it's fairly safe, even in the middle of the night; and, well, there's the black and white cookies.  If we wanted to do it again, we could choose another location.  We could do some press releases and I know we would get some attention for an interesting happening like this.  And aren't we all looking for more readers? So who's with me?!

I think it's brilliant. For me, personally, though, it would need to be on a weekend =)

i'm game! after all, i've done marathons and at least one yogathon, so compared to those, sitting around and writing should be a piece of cake... although it might be difficult to practice yoga and blog about it while sitting at a restaurant booth...

btw, can we just make sure we find a place with FREE wi-fi? :)

This is a pretty great idea, but I second the "weekend" thing.

OK, ladies. Let's do a weekend, but I think we need a few months to plan. And some more people. What about September?

I think we should send e-mails to the other members on this blog. Isn't there also an LA bloggers area on facebook? Does anyone know anything about that? Would anyone be willing to help me send e-mails? Are you guys still interested?

I like it. I'm going to be in Louisiana for 3 months, so I also like the idea of September. Even if there's just one blogger per hour I think it would work well. I tag a sensible hour, and I'm bringing my toddler and husband. Oh, and I want to write about vegan options at Canters. Am I banned?

Yep, still interested.

count me in... although I'd prefer a coffeebean (free wifi)

So there's not free wifi access at Canter's? (Is that question incredibly naive?) Is there any place besides coffee bean that does? Did you have an interesting branch in mind?

actually, I'm an Orthodox Jew, and although Canter's is Jewish it's not up to my standards of "Kosher", so I'd prefer not to go there. I don't know if Canter's has Wifi.

The coffee shops have wifi deals with either SBC or Tmobile. I have a hi-speed internet deal with SBC, so I get free wifi in coffeebean. (Starbucks is changing over from T-mobile to SBC in the next 5 months.) All you need is a username and password (which I have and can distribute).

Hey, everyone. I originally thought of Canters' because (1) it's open 24 hours, which is key, and (2) interesting people are always there, so at the very least you could blog about your experience while there.

I can research the internet question. There is probably some way around it. At the very least, we could write blog posts while at Canters, then actually post them from home...

i suppose blogging at canter's would be way more comfortable than at the 24-hour CVS pharmacy or ralph's supermarket... but then again, there must be other all-day-all-night coffeeshops in town. this is LA, after all...
